Our Safe and Vault Services
Safe Opening
Lost the combination? Inherited a safe nobody can open? Electronic keypad dead or bolt work jammed? Safe opening is often possible without destroying the safe. We assess the lock type, the safe’s construction and what has failed before deciding on the best method.
Safe Drilling
When non-destructive methods are not possible, a safe can be drilled. Professional safe drilling is precise: the goal is to reach the lock mechanism through a small, planned opening so the safe can usually be repaired and used again afterward, rather than cutting it apart.
Combination Changes
Change your combination whenever someone who knew it no longer needs access, such as a former employee or a family member who has moved out, and any time you are not sure who has seen it. It is also wise to change the factory or previous owner’s combination as soon as you get a safe.
Safe Repair and Maintenance
Dials that feel gritty, handles that need extra force and keypads that respond only sometimes are warning signs. Repairing the lock or bolt work early is far easier than opening a safe that has failed completely while locked.
Safe and Vault Sales
Looking for a new safe for your home or business? We can help you choose the right type and size for what you need to protect and talk through placement and anchoring so the safe cannot simply be carried away.
How to Choose the Right Safe
Safes are built to resist different threats, and the right choice depends on what you are storing:
- Fire protection: Fire-rated safes are tested to keep the interior below a set temperature for a period of time. Ratings such as UL Class 350 are designed for paper documents; digital media needs a stricter rating because it is damaged at lower temperatures.
- Burglary protection: Burglary ratings, such as UL TL-15 or TL-30, describe how long a safe resisted attack with tools in testing. Businesses storing cash or valuables should look at burglary ratings, not just fire ratings.
- Lock type: Mechanical dial locks are durable and need no batteries; electronic locks are faster to open and easier to change. Both have their place.
- Size and weight: Buy more space than you think you need. Heavier safes, and safes bolted to the floor, are harder to remove.
- Location: A safe hidden from casual view and anchored to concrete or framing is far more secure than one sitting loose in a closet.
Signs Your Safe Needs Service
- The dial feels rough, loose or needs several attempts to open.
- The handle is stiff or will not fully retract the bolts.
- An electronic keypad beeps, flashes or responds only some of the time, even with fresh batteries.
- The door has to be pushed or lifted to lock or unlock.
- The safe has been through a fire, flood or attempted break-in.
Calling at the first sign of trouble is the best way to avoid a lockout with your valuables inside.
Caring for Your Safe
Replace electronic lock batteries on a regular schedule rather than waiting for a low-battery warning. Keep the combination written down and stored somewhere secure away from the safe itself. Do not lubricate a lock yourself, because the wrong product can attract dirt and gum up the mechanism. And if the safe is not bolted down, have it anchored so it cannot be carried away.
Safes for Homes and Businesses
At home, a safe protects documents, jewelry, cash and keepsakes, and can keep firearms and medications out of reach of children. In a business, a safe protects the cash drawer, deposit bags, checks and records. If you are reviewing security for your shop or office, pair your safe with our commercial locksmith services or book a free security assessment to look at the whole property.
Safe and Vault FAQ
Can you open a safe if I lost the combination?
Yes. Lost combinations are one of the most common safe calls. Depending on the lock and the safe, we will open it by manipulation or other non-destructive methods where possible, or by drilling if needed.
Will drilling ruin my safe?
Not usually. Professional drilling is targeted at the lock mechanism, and in most cases the hole can be repaired and the lock replaced so the safe can be used again.
How often should I change my safe combination?
Change it whenever someone who knew it should no longer have access, after buying a used safe and whenever you suspect it has been seen.
Do you work on vaults as well as safes?
Yes. We provide sales and service for safes and vaults, including opening, repairing and combination work.
