Home Lock Services We Provide
Rekeying Your Home’s Locks
Rekeying changes the pins inside a lock cylinder so that a new key operates it and every old key stops working. The lock itself stays on the door, so you keep the hardware you already like while taking back control of who can get in. Rekeying is one of the most common reasons homeowners call us, and it is usually the smartest first step when:
- You just bought or rented a home and do not know how many copies of the old keys are still out there.
- A key was lost or stolen, especially if it was on a ring with anything that shows your address.
- A former roommate, tenant, contractor or dog walker still has a key.
- You want one key to open the front door, back door and garage entry instead of carrying several.
Lock Repair and General Maintenance
Wisconsin winters are hard on door hardware. Cold, moisture and road salt can leave keys that only turn after a fight, deadbolts that will not fully extend and latches that do not catch. Often the cause is a worn cylinder, a dirty mechanism or a strike plate that has shifted as the house settles. We diagnose the problem, clean and lubricate the lock, replace worn parts and adjust the strike so the door closes and locks the way it should.
New Lock and Deadbolt Installation
If your locks are damaged or simply not up to the job, we can install new hardware. A good deadbolt is only as strong as its installation, so we pay attention to the details that matter: a bolt that fully throws into the frame, a properly fitted strike plate and long screws that reach the wall framing rather than just the door jamb.
Key Duplication
Need a spare for a family member or a trusted neighbor? We cut duplicate keys so everyone who should have access does, without a trip to the hardware store.
Home Lockouts
Locked out with the keys on the kitchen counter? Our lockout service covers homes, businesses and vehicles, and we use entry methods designed to avoid damaging your door or lock.
Rekey or Replace? A Quick Guide
Both options give you new keys, but they solve different problems:
- Rekey when the lock works well and you mainly want old keys to stop working. It is faster and typically costs less than new hardware.
- Replace when the lock is broken, badly worn, damaged in a break-in attempt or you want to upgrade to a stronger deadbolt or different style.
- Combine both when you add a new lock and want it to share a key with the doors you already have.
Not sure which you need? Describe the problem when you contact us and we will give you a straight answer.
Signs Your Home Locks Need Attention
Locks rarely fail all at once. Watch for these early warnings and call before a small problem leaves you stuck outside:
- The key goes in but needs wiggling or extra pressure to turn.
- The deadbolt only locks if you push or pull on the door.
- The knob or lever feels loose or wobbles on the door.
- The latch does not catch when the door closes, so it drifts open.
- Keys are bent, cracked or worn smooth from years of use.
- You see pry marks, scratches around the keyway or other signs of tampering.
Any of these is a good reason to schedule a repair. Fixing a worn cylinder or a misaligned strike plate now is easier and cheaper than dealing with a broken key or a door that will not lock.
Simple Ways to Make Your Home Harder to Break Into
Most burglars look for the easiest way in. A few practical steps make your home a less attractive target:
- Lock every exterior door, including the door between an attached garage and the house.
- Use the deadbolt, not just the knob lock, whenever you leave or go to bed.
- Check that strike plates are secured with long screws and that door frames are solid.
- Do not hide a spare key under the mat or in an obvious spot; leave it with someone you trust instead.
- Rekey after any lost key, move or change in who has access.
- Keep entry points well lit and trim shrubs that hide doors and windows.
For a personal review of your property, ask about our free security assessment. Owner Bruce Doolittle checks your doors and other entry points and gives you a one-page report on what is working and what could be improved.

Residential Locksmith FAQ
How long does it take to rekey a house?
It depends on how many locks you have and their condition, but rekeying is usually much quicker than replacing hardware because the locks stay on the doors.
Can all my doors use the same key?
In many cases, yes. Locks from the same manufacturer with the same keyway can usually be rekeyed to one key. If your locks use different keyways, we will explain your options.
Can you rekey a lock if I don’t have the key?
Yes. If the lock is locked and the key is gone, we can still gain entry and rekey the cylinder. Just let us know when you call.
Which areas do you cover?
We serve homes throughout Sheboygan County and Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. See the full list of communities on our home page.
